The U.S. Catholic Bishops encourage every parish to promote social ministry as a response to biblically-based call to care for those on the margins of society and to promote justice. Communities of Salt and Light, the Bishops’ 2014 document promoting parish social ministry, urges parishes to coordinate efforts to deepen and sustain their parish social ministry. We do that at St. Francis of Assisi through our Social Concerns Committee, which meets quarterly to coordinate and promote social ministry. Leaders of each parish social ministry are encouraged to participate so we can support one another in ministry and deepen our efforts.
